About Mike Maleki, PMP®, CMRP

Reliability Engineer | Maintenance Planner | Educator | Consultant

Personal introduction

My career spans some of the most demanding operating environments in the world — from large-scale polymer plants producing 700,000+ tons per year in the Middle East, to food manufacturing, mining pre-production, and industrial equipment manufacturing in Canada. Along the way I’ve led teams, managed turnarounds, developed PM programs from scratch, and applied data analytics to drive real reliability improvements.

Professional background

Current Role

Maintenance Planner — Denison Mines | Mar 2025 – Present

Building the maintenance foundation for a pre-production mining operation from the ground up — developing asset maintenance plans, work management procedures, PM programs using OEM documentation, and MRO master data in the CMMS. Contributing to asset criticality analysis and spare parts inventory planning.

University Teaching

Sessional Lecturer( Part Time) — University of Saskatchewan | Sep 2024 –Present

Taught Introduction to Operations Management to BCom students, bringing real-world industrial experience into the classroom. Bridging the gap between academic operations theory and field-level practice.

Production & Scheduling

Production Scheduler — Prairie Machine and Parts | Jul 2023 – Mar 2025

Managed production scheduling using Epicor ERP, optimizing schedules against demand forecasts, customer orders, and inventory constraints. Focused on waste reduction and cycle time improvement through data analysis.

Reliability Planning

Asset Reliability Planning Specialist — Maple Leaf Foods | Apr 2023 – Jul 2023

Planned and scheduled maintenance using visual scheduling tools, PowerBI, and SAP. Tracked and improved maintenance KPIs through data-driven analysis, and prioritized work using criticality assessment.

Team Leadership

Maintenance Planning Head — Arya Sasol Polymer | May 2013 – Jul 2021

Led a team of seven planners across two polymer plants (LDPE and HDPE) with combined annual production exceeding 700,000 tons. Managed all facets of maintenance planning using IFS ERP, including HSE, spare parts, manpower, and tooling. A formative period developing deep expertise in large-scale industrial reliability.

Inspection & Turnarounds

Maintenance Planning & Inspection Supervisor — Mehr Petrochemical | Jul 2008 – Apr 2013

Oversaw a team of nine planners and inspectors managing preventive maintenance for an HDPE plant with 350,000 tons/year production capacity. Led turnaround planning, scheduling, and reporting. Supervised predictive maintenance technicians performing vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis across 250+ pieces of rotating, static, and electrical equipment.
